How do I transfer a firearm to The .45 Shop?

We accept any California legal firearm purchases from other FFLs. Please let us know you're transferring something in and send us a copy of your invoice so we can account for taxes. We do charge a transfer fee that varies based on membership level. Once we receive your firearm, we will log it into our system and send you a layaway receipt including a sum up of charges. At this point you can come in at your convenience to begin the background process. The ten-day wait does not commence until you fill out paperwork in person with us after the firearm arrives.

Can I conduct an Intrafamilial Transfer through The .45 Shop?

Please contact 45shop@hotrodsandhandguns.com for more specific instructions regarding Intrafamilial Transfers.

What works for "Proof of Residency"?

If your California driver’s license or ID lists your current residential address, you may use the following as a second proof of residency:

  • A valid CCW, COE, or California DMV vehicle registration.
  • A utility bill (electric, gas, water, cable, internet, trash, or sewage). The bill must be dated within 90 days of service and match the address on your driver’s license/ID, Federal form #4473, and DROS.
Note: We cannot accept “past due” or “delinquent” bills, medical bills, bank statements, or cell phone bills.

If your California driver’s license or ID does not reflect your current residential address, you will need to provide additional documentation. This can include any government-issued document bearing your legal name and current residential address, dated within the last year (365 days).

Important Note: State and federal laws prohibit us from accepting copies or photos of documentation. All documents must be original.

Can I carry a concealed firearm in California?

Generally you may not carry a concealed firearm on your person in public unless you have a valid Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) license. CCW licenses are issued only by a California county sheriff to residents of the county, or the chief of police to residents of the city. California law does not honor or recognize CCW licenses issued outside this state.

(Pen. Code, §§ 25400-25700, 26150-26225.)
